Any way you slice it - good litter..

rainbowsrus Sep 01, 2011 09:57 AM

Last night was one of those late late nights, had to clean the rodent colony and wrap up feeding all my baby snakes from 2010 and 2011. Every baby ate this week including all the new ones.

Was leaving the snake room to go to bed and noticed a mom was out of her hide. Of course I gave her a better look and she was skinny - WOOHOO!!!!!

Pulled the hide and found me a "pirates chest full of booty", Strings of Pearls everywhere I looked. They are from Aubergine and Biwa, Pearl x Pearl and wow they look cool including some wacky looking ones. 14 total with one slug, very good IMO for a first time mom and dad.

Check out the wacky patterns on the one that exits lower right..

Brighter colored one in the corner...

Pile o' Pearls in the other corner...

One still in the sack...

Perfect string of Pearls...

Very cool wacky patterns as well....

Mostly cleaned up pile o' Pearls...

Pretty cool for my first "all Pearl" litter but man I'm dragging today.

Awesome bunch of babies there, Dave!

So do you still think it's line-bred? I would have expected more "normals" in there, yet I only see maybe one or two bullseye babies and no normals. Not too much of a spectrum there, but that's a good thing. You definitely got what you were breeding for (and then some).

I honestly don't know. I have only had one Pearl related litter so far and that by itself implies it's genetic.

I've read others have had some results that don't quite fit simple genetics models but I take all that with a grain of salt. I do have more Pearl related litters including......

Akoya x Baroque (Pearl x Pearl) due any day
Oyster x Popeye (Pearl x Anery) Due October 23rd

and a couple more I'm not sure are gravid or at least don't have good due dates....

Pearl x Mickey (Pearl x Hypo)
Apricot x Biwa (Pearl x Pearl) - overdue but may have the wrong shed as the POS ????

Sorry, Dave, I don't consider that a good litter. I consider it a *great* litter! Congrats!

Looks great! Funny, my Pearl x Pearl pairing last year didn't produce anything as crazy as those... but they are all related... wonder why?

Thanks Aubrey, I really don't know how the genetics work yet.

Are your pearls fresh water or salt water?
