How to clean Beardies...baby shampoo okay?

purelake Oct 01, 2003 02:49 PM

We had two beardies given to us. They are in good health a little skinny, with stubby tails. One male and one female. Both ferocious appetites. The mail is tiny, but wants to mate with everything in sight. His beard is constantly black and he loves to heaed bob, so this earned him his own cage. Anyway, my question is both of them are pretty dirty. The have black "stuff" embedded at the base and tips of the tail, chins and on their feet. What is the best way to clean them? I have tried bathing them in warm water (I have not encountered this before because we have always bathed our guys at least every other day so they don't get "crusty" and gently scrubbing the spots with my fingers. Is it safe to use some kind of soft bristled brush and some baby shampoo on the spots? Or is their a reptile shampoo I should use?

works well and in 3 years had no problems, I use a lotion soap call Oil of Olay, its very nice smelling, and cleans them well and takes away odors they may get from tromping throught their poo (we have one that protest being left alone very long who fingerpaints 200 paw prints on her tank with poo and water)

Each dragon has their own soft toothbrush for cleaning (direction of scales) and removing shed bits.

I bought one of those oral b tooth brushes with the spinning head. My beardies just love the feeling of the massage and come out very clean I just use plain water for them cause I'm afraid the scents will bother them. I know I'm sensitive to perfumes and would have a headache all day if I soaked in it.
