Mega Clutch Fun!!!

RG Sep 01, 2011 09:57 PM

So the jury is still out on if any of these hypos are what I consider Mega Hypos. Some look VERY light, but I want to see if they retain their light color after their first shed.

Here's the sire (Mega Hypo Het Snow):

Here's the dame (Hypo Het Snow _ from Terry Dunham):

10 nice looking eggs (06-13-2011):

The first slit (08-28-2011):

This clutch really had me worried, I kept them on the dryer side this time and the eggs started denting in about 10 days before the first pipper. I was so glad when they finally started hatching.

Here's the clutch of 10 as they came out...

1)
Tricolor Hypo 66% Het Snow:

2)
Tangerine Hypo 66% Het Snow:

3)
Tangerine Hypo 66% Het Snow (and I thought the previous one was nice ):

4)
Tricolor Hypo 66% Het Snow:

5)
Ghost 66% Het Snow:

6)
Tricolor Hypo 66% Het Snow:

7)
Tangerine/Tricolor Hypo 66% Het Snow:

8)
Tricolor Hybino 66% Het Anery (this hondo glows!):

9)
Ghost 66% Het Snow:

10)
Tangerine Hypo 66% Het Snow:

Some other shots:
#3, #5 and #7

#9 and #10

#9 and #10

There is so much variety in this clutch, it's the reason I love Hondos! I have more than a few favorites...it will be hard to pick witch one's I'm going to hold back.

I wish I had another Hybino, or a Triple Homozygous in this clutch, but there is another clutch cooking (from a different female Hypo Het Snow to the same Mega male) that should hatch in November...so maybe I'll luck out and get another Triple!

Hope you all like the pics.

Here are some pics of the sire (Mega Hypo as a neonate) with some random other neonate morphs.

This is the phenotype I'm working on reproducing:

Great turn out Rusty! Of course I love the tri-colors first. But that #5 ghost is quite unique looking. Really enjoyed the pics.

The difference between Mega and Extreme is lost on me...these look pretty light!

I'm good, but thanks for the offer to educate me on this...I have read the various discussions on here over the years. Visually, only a few Mega's have looked much different than Extreme's to me.

they may or may not be different.

A true Mega hypo is actually much darker than an extreme.

Also, Megas have been produced by het to het breedings. I don't know of anyone, ever, producing an "extreme" from two "normal" looking parents.

That's why I'm doing specific selective breeding (outcrossing as well as line breeding) to try and figure this out.

But, if I was going to bet money...I would bet that the "Mega" hypo is another type of single recessive hypo, that is potentially allelic to the other lines already in existence.

In my opinion, the "extremes" that people have are just the outcome of multiple allelic hypo (polymorphic) genes expressing at the same time.

That would explain why when you breed a phenotypically extreme to an extreme you don't get ALL extremes.

One extreme is HYPO 1,2 and 3...while the other is Hypo 1, 2 and Het 3.

The bottom line is...no one really knows for sure what's going on with the Megas...but I'm very interested in trying to understand it.

I feel it's better to look at things scientifically and try to prove out a theory rather than just saying one looks like another therefore it must be the same.

I hope you figure it out, and that all your hard work was worth it...would be great to have a visual difference for sure.

Seems like I remember somebody hatching out a few Hypo's with VERY Gray/Silver and calling it "Mega", which is awesome, but not very scientific.

To go through all of your work and have somebody like me come along and say, "Nice Extreme's", might piss you off a bit, I would imagine! Apologies...

it was such a nice clutch...10 eggs all good..tricolors, orangecolors, and tangerines...ghosts and hybinos...not a bad deal.

I hope my single egg from my Mega to Mega turns out...it would make my year.

Thanks,
Rusty

Hope so for you Rusty. And hope its spectacular!

I cut a small window in the perfect place.

The little nate inside is a Mega for sure..dark but Mega Hypo all the way!

I just hope he comes out without any issues.

I'll post pics when he emerges!
