Wow huge difference between now and then. Can you tell as juveniles they are hypo E?

When breeding Hypo-E to Hypo-E you can tell, but when breeding Black Phase by Hypo-E it is difficult.
I believe this gene acts codominant but it hasn't been proven yet. We'll know next year at this time if my 2 male Black X Hypo-E start to turn pink......and black would be VERY cool.....

This ontogenesis occurs with the Black Phase and the Hypo-E animals.......No real "markers" per say, but I am making some educated guesses so far......lol

I hear you, I've had the same problem with my Grease kings. Kind of hard to tell what is normal and what is not. There's a lot of variation in that morph, which makes it difficult at times. I'm thinking I will have it down in another 10 years or so. lol

Yeah, that is a crazy ontogenesis those undertake as they mature. Sure would be cool to understand the precise dynamics within the pigment cells as to exactly how/why that occurs..

I am sure you have pondered that very question many times before..LOL!

Yep.....What the hell is going on in there?.......LOL
This male looks as though his saddles will be white in a year or so........The female has something else going on.....She is more lavender than pink.......It looks like the gray ground color is mixing in with the reduction of red........

I wonder if it is dimorphic as well......

"I wonder if it is dimorphic as well"

Yep, maybe yet another possibility. Only time will tell I guess. Certainly wouldn't be the first time a normal phenotype or genetic mutation was sexually dimorphic..
