Question about feeders, parasites, fecals, etc.

Sohni Oct 01, 2003 04:49 PM

Are there feeder insects that tend to be more or less heavily parasitized than others? How do you deal with fecal checks--do you just routinely do them once or twice a year, or wait for symptoms to develop (runny poop, etc.)? I'm not used to feeding insects, so I want to make sure I know how to handle the potential parasites.

I just got in 2,000 mealworms from reptilefood.com. Holy moly, is that a lot of mealies! They do look very nice and juicy, though, and came in right on time.

Crickets tend to pass the most parasites. Mealworms are among the "cleanest" staple food sources available.
