does anyone use steam to clean?

mike_panic Sep 08, 2011 10:35 AM

Is anyone out there using those steam cleaners on their boaphile cages(or any other plastic cage for that matter)? I have been think of getting one but I am worried they may ruin the seals of the cages. Anyone use them? If so, what brand and how do you like it? Thanks. Mike Panichi

I have always used a 1 ounce of bleach combined with a teaspoon of dish soap in a quart of water. My vet said this is what works the safest and the mildest to properly kill bacteria and sanitize.

Gotta keep are critters clean and happy

forgot to say make sure the dish soap is Ammonia free.

Never used steam Mike, we just use a chlorhexidine and water solution to clean everything. Seems to do the trick, and takes all that boa smell out of the cages. Hope all is well with you buddy.

I do. I use a vapor steam cleaner, as opposed to "just steam". I bought a decent entry level vapor steam cleaner (about $400) with a boiler temp above 300 degress F, and tip temp above 200 degrees F. I know you need to be above 160 degrees F to do any good. I temp gunned the cage surface immediately behind the steam wand and it measures in the 180s-190s F. I have had no damage to the cages or the welds, and I use Boaphile 421s also. I love my vapor steam cleaner, I use it all over the house, too!
