Raided another pirates treasure chest!!

rainbowsrus Sep 08, 2011 04:24 PM

Went home for lunch today because I thought Akoya was ready to deliver. After weeks, maybe months, in her hide, never to be seen unless I pulled out the hide and uncovered her, she was out last night....

Of course I found nothing. Had my lunch, and as an afterthought I checked again just because and found her coming out of the hide and looking suspiciously skinny.....

Clear example of how much body mass they lose, look at the skin fold on Akoya's belly... (and the first glimpse of the pile of babies)

With mom out of the way time to see what's going on...

Group shot after getting mostly clean...

All Pearl litter.....

15 total babies and not one single slug. And no lumps in Akoya showing she had anything to eat.

And on a side note, my 1000th BRB baby is a Pearl!!!

Gah, I'm terrible at keeping track of exact dates for mating and such. I know I saw them both balloon up around Feb, and I am pretty sure I saw mating around that time as well. That is why I thought July or August litters. Now we are well into September.....

Ovulation happens after mating, typically a couple weeks or so after last observed mating. At least for those I've seen.

Better records would free up some of your future wig fund!!

very cool congrats, so are pearls co dom or what??

rainbowsrus Sep 09, 2011 12:59 AM

That's a litter that will get you to post?

Honestly do not know, I think so but not sure. Pieces of the puzzle are falling in place, Pearl x Pearl = Pearl (two separate pairings). More trials need to be done to prove it out so time will tell.
