Got some V. prasinus eggs this morning

basinboa Sep 09, 2011 05:46 AM

5 in total. 3 are full eggs, 2 are dented. All were laid inside the nest in a single event. Nest temperatura was roughly 78F (there was a warmer choice but she wanted this nestbox).

She held the eggs quite long, 50 days after first copulation (40 days after last copulation).
I have seen one report of successful V. macraei breeding with such a long gestation.

Would be nice to hear some comments from more experienced people. Especially Robyn from Pro Exotics, who just hatched some nice babies.

Every time I have had clutches fail, the gestation period was longer than 28 days.

But I've never bred prasinus. Hopefully Robyn has some good news.

Regardless, all you can do is incubate them and hope for the best at this point.

Good luck!

That is a LOOOONG time to hold eggs.

We have gotten lots of eggs that looked great, and then died off over time.

Our current success is using an old school large box of deep vermiculite, with the eggs completely buried. We have used the no-substrate boxes for other eggs, including prasinus that went bad. Right now, they will only go in the vermiculite box, that is working well...

Thanks Robyn,

Can you talk a little about nestboxes?
