New Tubs

tweedaldumb Sep 09, 2011 05:40 PM

Hi guys, When you get new tubs for your rack, what do you do to clean them out the first time to get any manufacturing byproducts out? I wasnt sure if you could just use dish soap, i come from having saltwater fish tanks and know that dish soap is not good to use in tanks. I wasnt sure if it was the same for snakes. Thanks!

I use dish soap for yearsss
a friend used Rocal I think it was....he cleaned all the time...
to the point it hurt his breeding...and his clean cages made the cobras not breed....snakes feel more comfy with a little dirt in life....not dirt, but the more homey snake smell they like..

clean as you have to....snakes can take it...not like fish or frogs.....

....remember....sunlight kills alot of germs also....(not factory byproducts)LOL

I use dish soap to clean my tubs every week. As long as it is rinsed well you shouldn't have a problem. The soap I use is also environmentally friendly.

I've never cleaned new tubs. I just start using them.

For cleaning dirty tubs I use "Chlorhexidine". I mix up 1-2 gallons at a time and just spray the tubs. I never rinse the tubs as it's not needed.

I mix 3 or so onces of "Chlorhexidine" to 1 gallon of hot water.

I've never cleaned new tubs either...just use them. Chlorhexidine is a bactericide and virucide so you know it
kills any bad stuff in addition to cleaning. I stack tubs in the sun after washing to get the sun's germ-killing effect while they dry!
