Animals taken from Newport pet store in raid
NEWPORT, Ore. (AP) — The Oregon Humane Society is caring for dozens of puppies, birds, rats and reptiles seized from a Newport pet store accused of keeping them in unhealthy conditions.
The Oregonian reports (bit.ly/r5SfY5 ) the raid Wednesday was the result of a five-month investigation of Circus World Pets.
The Humane Society says investigators found filthy conditions and inadequate food and water for the animals. There also had been complaints of crowding and poor ventilation.
The store posted a sign saying it was closed Thursday "due to the sudden and unnecessary attack by the Oregon Humane Society" and planned to reopen.
