Sulfur Outcrosses

FoxTurtle Sep 10, 2011 02:08 PM

This year both my Hillsborough locality specific sulfur clutches failed to produced anything viable. This line has produced good offspring in the past, so I'm still leaning toward bad luck rather than fertility issues.

I did breed my big sulfur male to a nice female brooks that wasn't being used for anything. A couple of them came out pretty nice. Not sure what I will do with them as my aim is to keep this line locality specific.

Those are pretty cool Nick. Pretty variable as well. The middle one has the head of the last animal and the body of the first!!

I'd love to see pics of the adults, as well as th female sulfurs. Those babies will look very nice. Anything with Sufur in it looks great!

This was the sire:

I don't have any decent pics of the female, and don't even have her anymore. She looked almost identical to the first male brooks you have posted on your site.

Most of the other sulfurs I have are posted on my site here:

Indeed. Any take on the genetics of these? Incomplete dominance perhaps?

Next year I'll be outcrossing into some of my more normal looking Hillsborough County kingsnakes, which may give us a better idea as to what is going on with the sulfur line. I look at them now as expressing extreme examples of normal traits, kind of like what we see in the Enge South GA kings.

My fave is that female in the first pic!!

Great site, by the way! I absolutely loved reading about all of the localities, and the stories going along with how you obtained your breeding stock. So much locality, I love it!!!!

Awesome job!!!

Based on the sulfur potential, I like the last one.
