Next years pairings

varanid Sep 12, 2011 09:49 PM

If I elect to breed next year (I haven't sold a single baby, so I'm only still debating), I'm looking at pairing the following animals

Axanthic male
hypo het axanthic female
normal male
normal female
albino female
mosaic female
white side male white side female

Current grouping (I"m thinking)
normal with normal

axanthic with the hypo and mosaic

white side with white side and albino

I want to produce some visuals that should sell well at shows and online.

I'm holding back 1.1 from my axanthic/ws pairing this year--the female is HUGE (80 grams @ 2 months) and I'm kind of curious how big she'll get and how inheritable the trait will be--can I produce some GIGANTIC white sides maybe? Sadly I lost 2 babies from clutch so 1.1 is all I can really hold back. One I don't know what happened, the other was an escape (I forgot one of my racks has a too large gap in the top right).

I'm assuming that visuals well sell better than hets particularly at shows even given the corresponding higher prices. And I'm assuming this holds true for very obvious morphs even more so (white sides, etc).

I'm also assuming that my pairings make sense; I should get one clutch each with visuals in it, and one that's double het for my projects, where I can hold back 2-3 adults.

When it comes to selling offspring at shows, have people found it helpful to have the adults there, to demonstrate the ancestry? Or does it mostly not matter?
