skinny tinc

adamsanity Oct 01, 2003 06:35 PM

Any one out there have any ideas/ food suggestions for putting some weight on my tinc? She lives with two auratus who have put on weight since I got them. The tinc is the most active and seems to eat the most but I am having a hard time getting her nice and plump. I feed flour beetle larve atleast 5 days a week and a large amount of fruit flies two to three times a day. She eats more than the auratus do but seems to have a problem keeping weight on. any one have any ideas other than just feeding more? suplement or alternative food ideas are welcome.

I'd get a fecal done at the vet. Then I would feel a lot of hydei maggots. If you make the medium too wet (but not soupy), they maggots will climb out more and you can scrape them with your finger to feed to it. That will help fatten him up.
Best,

If this frog is still a jvl then the weight looks perfectly normal. They tend sto stay rather slim while they are growing and start putting on the weight once sexually mature. Also keep in mind, males don't get as fat as females (in most cases, but not always true). Hope this of any help.

I have a Patricia that is real skinny also. It was housed with three other juveniles but has recently been moved into it's own 10gal. tank. I dust the fruit flies with a supplement from Black Jungle. I also keep a small piece of cut up apple in the front/middle portion of the tank. This keeps the flies in one spot and will make it easier for feeding. I've been doing this for almost all week and have noticed a dramatic change in size and activity. Hope this helps.
