Okay - yes, I am actually posting on another forum, besides the rat snake forum, and it's your fault, John! LOL

Great lookin' kings as always, and awesome projects as well! Now that I've caught the getula bug again, I may have to get something else in holbrooki from you, to breed with the amels and het...

I need to get some new pics of the holbrooki and the special Green Valley, AZ kings. The Green Valley kings are monsters - taking small / medium adult mice already.

What's up Toby!!

Glad to see that you could make it over here..LOL!

Certain ratsnakes are very cool of course, but it is nice to have some diversity and fun with some other types too..

As you know, I have some interesting ratsnakes, but have many more types of Lampropeltis in the collection, so it's probably the exact opposite of yours. You sure do have some sweet stuff man, and congrats on your latest Senticolis clutch too!..

Hey, thanks Doug! Yeah, I have sort of specialized in certain ratsnakes, but I also have a soft spot for getula.

I have a few cool kings right now, and would like to add some Cal kings in the near-ish future. I used to have some nice Merker El Dorados and some blue-eyed blondes, but (stupidly) sold them all a few years ago.

I now have three holbrooki from John, two are amel and one is het - offspring from the ones he is talking about above.

I also have a pair of "special" F1 getula from Green Valley, AZ locality parents. They seem to be from an area of intergradation, possibly between splendida, californiae, and nigrita. One parent was very dark, with a faint splendida pattern while the other is / was mostly splendida looking. The offspring from these were what was very interesting, with some leaning more toward californiae and some more to splendida. I can hardly wait to breed this pair and see what pops out!

I need to get some new pics of my few kings...

My "Lassiter" holbrooki are offspring from the YELLOW amel holbrooki John showed above and a w/c male from Refugio County, TX - an intergradation zone for holbrooki and splendida. The male is totally speckled and apparently het for amel as well. I am sure John has talked about them before, but I just wanted to clarify the origins of my holbrooki...

Nice snakes , John. Those first two look like the intergrades from Arizona.

Yes...It is amazing how these double hets have the pattern of the Amel father. Nice and clean with little speckling on the side walls......I only held back this pair because they had the cleanest patterns.......

Check out their siblings:

Wow, a lot of variation in that clutch. Do all amels have that AZ look to them?

It seems the amelanistic gene does something to the "busy" side pattern....Just as the Lavender and Amel gene does something with the speckling in holbrooki......especially hatchlings.....

All the amels I've seen have that clean pattern.

Is it because they are from the New Mexico / Arizona border?
Is there California influence that far East? I don't know.....
But they all are from the wild caught specimen from there......

Hubbs book shows a small are where the intergrades are found on the NM side but most of the border is pure splendida. You would have to know exactly where the albino was found to get an idea if it had CA influence. But not all people believe that look has to do with CA influence.

One juvenile was captured in 1994 near the Arizona border in New Mexico north of I-10, another was was found in 2004, that was also found in New Mexico, and another was found 50 miles west of Lagtry, Texas. Don Shores' bloodline all originate from the first one captured in 1994.

I have Don Shore's Bloodline from NM north of I-10 and about 30 miles from the Arizona Border......

I think the Amel gene has something to do with it.......Not CA influence........But it could be either or......All I know is the normals with clean patterns are killer looking.....LOL

Yeah, that's what I think also. I'm sure they've been out crossed enough to have lost that trait by now if it was from CA influence.
