The Puzzle.... SOLVED!

exotics by nature Sep 18, 2011 09:26 AM

Hello everyone,

We are all very happy over here...

Here he is.... the very first ever NORMAL PUZZLE!!!!! I've been telling everyone for years that it was just TOO SOON to assume that this gene was linked directly to Pastel. So now we have done it... this project is now ready to be mixed with EVERYTHING!!!

The Puzzle Ball is SIMPLE RECESSIVE, based on our observation there are no accurate markers for the normal heterozygous animals as hatchlings. As they age, the older hets seem very light and somewhat orange in color. All of the Pastel homozygous and het versions seem to be incredibly clean and bright yellow.

Here are a few more pics...

100% Het Puzzle & Puzzle

100% Het Puzzle & Puzzle - Note the eye stripe break

Puzzle & Pastel Puzzle

Here is an interesting one... Pastel Desert 100% Het Puzzle! These seem to have displayed a tiny bit of Puzzle? I have been told by many people that their Pastel Deserts look a LOT like Pastel Puzzles but please notice the eye and head pattern, they are very different! I can't wait to see the Pastel Desert Puzzle!!

I know this was posted recently but I wanted to get this all in one post for everyone to view more easily... The Buzz (Bumblebee Puzzle)

Here is an old pic from 2009 of the very first Pastel Puzzle and Super Pastel Puzzle...

And one more Super Pastel Puzzle for good measure

Thanks for reading all of this! It is a great feeling to have gone through this project this long. This project has come full circle for us now and as I said above... it really NEEDS to be mixed with everything!

I saw the Puzzle and now I am thinking, "I wonder how the Puzzle gene would mix with the new swirly-patterned hatchlings Evansnakes just posted..."

I guess I picture a hatchling that is kind of high contrast with the black patterning looking something like filigree, lol.

Best of luck to you. I love the pattern on the Puzzle. I look forward to a Mojave or Lesser Puzzle in particular.

Love the Buzz. Also the Pastel Puzzle -- maybe even more than the Super Pastel Puzzle? Congratulations on the entire project, Sean! Very nice photographic overview too -- props to Celia for that, I imagine. Great stuff...Dave

Dave,

Thanks a lot! As for the photos... Celia hasn't been with the company for some time but I picked up a few camera tricks over the years! Thanks for the compliments!

Well then -- props to you! I always considered Celia the best photographer on this forum, but could be that distinction now rolls over to you

Big Grats Bro. I know how long we have been waiting to see that, and get a good look at Puzzle to see what charecteristics it has, and how it may influence other things in the future. Now it's time to really do some work, and get it inro more genes. I know you arlready started some of that this year, and I think next year may be even more exciting.

Sean,

Congrats on finally figuring that one out! I'm sure many cool combos will be made in the future. It will be cool to see how the puzzle pattern affects other pattern morphs!
