Interesting Clutch

SlytherLyn Sep 18, 2011 02:22 PM

I had a 4 egg clutch incubating from my dark female Ghana Dinker girl bred to her Pastel son from a previous breeding. The 4 egg clutch resulted in 7 babies. One set of twins and one set of triplets. The twins and triplets are dark like their mom. The two eggs that contained only one baby per egg are both pastels like their dad.

The first picture is of the whole clutch.

You can see the size difference between the two Pastels in the center who each developed to normal size having their respective eggs to themselves (65 grams and 69 grams)

The two smaller babies on the left are the twins who had to share egg space and yolk resources. As such, they hatched out smaller (27 grams and 30 grams)

The smallest babies on the right are the triplets (15 grams, 16 grams, and 24 grams). It's hard to see in the photo but the middle triplet didn't fare too well smooshed in the egg during development and has a badly messed up face. One of the other triplets has a very minor kink in her neck, nothing life threatening or that would keep her from living a long full life. The 3rd triplet, thankfully, appears perfect, just small.

I'm rather hoping I will never hatch out any more triplets in the future. The egg resources and space are just not meant to support 3 babies to full perfect development.

The 2nd picture is the Pastel I plan to keep, if she's a she. I don't think she's anything special, just a normal looking Pastel, but I love her and think she's pretty.

The 3rd picture is my other keeper of the clutch. It's the little 16 gram Triplet who faired the best, no deformities, just really tiny.

Most of the babies hatched with small white dots on their backs, like someone dribbled white out on them. Neither their mom nor dad has this. Unsure if the dots will stay or just disapear after a few sheds. Time will tell.

Cool to have twins and triplets in the same clutch. Too bad about the deformed one. Those white spots will go away after a few sheds. Heres a pic of some mojave spiders I hatched out a few years ago with them also. Congrats on the clutch. Chris Hall
