Background info on Mystery Kingsnake

Does anyone know anything about this King? It's from the classic book Florida's Fabulous Reptiles & Amphibians. I believe the phots was taken by Pete Carmichael who is also the co/author. I think this is a stunning animal so if anyone has info it would be appreciated.

It is very likely that animal was one of Bill Love's animals from many years ago. There are countless photos in that book that date back to the 80's and early 90's. I know Bill took the photos of the L.g.floridana just below that one, as well as the totally patternless goini/meansi on the opposite page there too.

I have a brand new condition copy of that book that is copyright printed/published in 2003, but I have also seen this same book back in 2001 at a library that was VERY worn-out and seemed to have been repaired several times before. It seemed to be many years old. I am thinking it has been re-published quite a few times in past years, and that the animal in question might not even be alive now, but who knows. You might try contacting Bill Love about this, as he would more than likely know about that animal's history and/or origin.

BTW, that huge 20 foot long, 250 lb. Reticulated Python on page 49 was found just a couple miles from where I used to live in Ft. Lauderdale for most of my entire life. That thing had more Raccoons to munch on there in that park than you could possibly shake a stick at, and it's huge girth is absolute proof of this.

Anyway,if you email Bill, he would very likely be able to fill you in on that animal if anyone could.

good luck!

Yeah, since mine says "tenth edition 2003" on the inside back cover, it certainly proves that it has been re-published nemerous times. At least ten times or more to be precise..LOL!

Pretty oool book, and especially for only $8 bucks at a small local used book store..

Did ya notice how much younger the Love's, and also Todd Hardwick(of Pesky Critter's on Animal Planet) looked with the Retic photo back then?.

I have a newspaper clipping from back in 1989 of that monster they found under the guy's house. When the guy's flashlight finally zero'd in on that thing coiled up in a big pile, and he was practically face to face with it, he immediately yelled out to the guys above holding his legs to pull him the hell out because it was FAAR bigger than they originally thought it would be.

You know the typical deal......"Joe Blow" homeowner claims there is a HUGE 12 foot snake in his garden and it usually turns out to be a 5 foot long ratsnake or something...LOL!

...that in ALL my snake call/rescues, the size of the snake was close to or at the size the caller said.......maybe 1 out of 100 times! Two were TX rats when I was in e. TX. and the lady said they were 5'..and when I got there, I was surprized that they were indeed 5'ers...

HAHAA!!, I hear ya man. It just about never fails. To the vast majority of the general public, The mere sight of a snake seems to significantly scramble the "accurate dimension" section of the brain lobe..
