Brumation questions

CrazyLoco May 26, 2003 11:28 PM

Hello Everybody,
I have a couple of questions about brumation and I would be very grateful for any infomation or advise you may have:
1) How soon after the female lay her eggs do you start the brumation process?
2)What should the temperature be during the brumation? (I currently have the temp at 97 degree/basking site and 85 degree/ cooling site).
3)How many daylight hours should she be exposed to? (Currently set to 14/10).
4)I have read that the brumation usually lasts two to three months, does anyone have a more accurate time frame?
5) During the brumation, should I reduced the amount of crickets and veggies she get?
6) I have heard that most bearded dragons will breed without any type of brumation period, just wanted to know, how many people from the forum do put their females in brumation and how has it effected the future clutches?
Even after doing some research and reading my beardie books, I always seem to find answers and better ways of raising my beardies from reading the posts of everyone on the forum. Its obvious that there's are several people with a great vast of knowledge about the beardie's well-being.Just wanted to say "thank you" for sharing your knowledge with everyone else and having a great attitude doing it.
Thanks Rico & the girls

If you are going to brumate, it is done in the winter BEFORE mating and laying. Breeding is normally done in the spring.
When they brumate, they sleep, normally in a hidey or under a half log, so most times you won't need lights or food unless they wake up.
