opinions?

Hey what's up everyone. I figured there were enough Crotalus enthusiasts here, I could ask a question and get a hasty, and well informed reply. I'm mainly looking for some opinions, besides, the Crotalid forum is usually a ghost town.

So anyway, in 2008, while cruising a dirt road in the northwestern Mojave one late September night, I came across this Scutalatus. I only had the snake for as long as it took me to watch it for a few minutes and snap off some pics before letting it go on it's way, and then, only after (about three years later) I dug up the images on my computer, did I think about the fact it was pretty subdued in color and pigment. I've seen some Scutalatus over the years, but none like this one. What do any of you think? I'm interested in hearing from whomever has an expertise in Crots.

Thanks in advance.

Mojavie rattlesnakes vary in color quite a bit, sometimes from the same locale. I've seen them vibrant, dark, and light.

Although that is a nice looking scute, I don't see anything special about it ( ie, hypo, etc.).

Hubbs will be the first to tell you that he doesn't know squat about rattlesnakes.

Just saying......

Its not something I would say is out of the ordinary but it is nice. There is a range of variation from brighter green with darker blotches, to ones like this that appear faded out.

Looks like a nice light phase Scutalatus. They are such friendly snakes to work with aren't they?

Thats normal for Mohaves. I have seen a number of them in the last few days, Oh maybe 10 or 12. And some were very much like that. NORMAL. and some were different.

The problem for us is, we get a lot of DIFFERENT, and that means, they tend to lead towards being atrox at times around here.

So here, we call what you have a pic of as a nice NORMAL mohave. As in, all mohave, textbook mohave. A good one. not all messed up. etc. hahahahahahahahahaha
