josephschmidt Sep 24, 2011 02:03 PM

This was my last hognose egg to hatch this year.
She has to be the coolest thing I have ever hatched.
She has four eyes 2 mouths both tongues flick and she seems to crawling around alright.
What an amazing creature!!
I will take better pic when I get home from work.

Im not wanting to start something big here... but i do have a question.. Are you planning on keeping it or what? I guess I just dont understand. Im thinking that if I hatched out a 2 headed snake like that, to me at least, it seems the most humane thing to do would be to euthanize it. (just MY opinion). What are your plans with it? Certainly a neat creature.

Just like mother nature would do I'm going to give it a chance to live like I would with anything I hatch here at my house. I do this for fun and for me having a two headed hognose snake is quite a neat novelty just like this gem who is doing great and hands down one of my new favorite snakes.
I guess if I were you then I would have just squished these things on my sidewalk fresh out of the egg.
Good thing for them I am not.
Hope everything you hatch for the rest of life turns out perfect,, playing god doesn't come with a handbook where I come from.
Thanks for the 2 cents-

Hey Chris,
Thats not a good way to start on a forum. Calling a respected member of this forum an a-hole is no way to win friends or get questions answered.

While I do agree that many defects shoud be culled, like kinks, or other issues that can be genetic and passed on, something like this is pretty damn cool, not to mention rare. If it not life threatening, debilitating, and it certainly is not genetic. I do not see it inhumane to keep it alive it can thrive. If you think about it, by what you are saying, albinos should be killed if they hatch as well as some other morphs

Gregg, thank you for not being an ahole... Your response makes sense and I see where you are coming from. Thank you.

on a side note, not new to the forum, not a veteran either though. I have been a member for a few years and read through the king and hognose section on a pretty regular basis... I do not post all too often because of how some of the other members respond... it is happening fairly quickly, the a**holes outweighing the rest.

Thanks money! I'm stoked on it for sure.
A friend told me a story about a mutual friend that lost the most perfect two headed kingsnake due to drowning in the egg. For that exact reason.
After the rest of the eggs were all pipped I slit the egg and it popped it's head right out. She may have made it out on her own but either way that's not in the hand book.

Halloween Hognose! Seriously, what the heck are you using for incubating medium, depleted uranium waste from Area 51? Next, you'll be showing off hognose that glow in the dark AND daylight!

Congrats Joe, I hope it survives for you.
