Pied thoughts...

demonmyst Sep 25, 2011 01:25 AM

I am getting a cheap high-white pied female from a family member ($500!)...I usually do boas so this is going to be my only semi-long term ball project...at least my first...I might do more if I like it, but anyways...here is what I'm debating on.

I could do the normal:

Pied x Pied...or hets if I can't afford a male by breeding age(next year I believe...haven't seen her yet) No project here. Simply pied balls...boring, but not bad as a first project.

Super pastel x pied..making some pastels het for pied...then maybe trading a female for a male so that way I can have pastel het pied x pastel het pied. No full pied clutch, but a clutch in the future that'll give super pastels pied....when the babies are old enough. Long term, but tempting...

Or, I could make a bigger investment and figure out my killerbee pied project...which I would buy a killerbee het for pied. Finding a reptible breeder and good price might be hard.

Any thoughts or suggestions are appreciated! Thanks.

Try something new, the projects you suggest have been done before.

I don't think he is trying to come up with a NEW project that hasn't been done yet...Any of those possible combinations would be a good way to start and get the feet wet so to speak...

Congrats! That's awesome, especially if she's not a hatchling and is only a year away from breeding size.

Spider pieds are nice but tend to only have color/pattern on their heads and pure white bodies, just something to think about. Difference between a Spider Pied, Bumble Bee Pied, or Killer Bee Pied you are mainly looking at difference in head color/pattern.

If you want a pattern morph involved with your project and don't want to make just white snakes with pretty faces, you might look into Pinstripe as an option. A Lemonblast het Pied male would give you the possibility of getting Pieds, Pastel Pieds, Pinstripe Pieds, or if you are lucky Lemonblast Pieds on your first breeding.

There are a lot of other really great Pied combos out there. You'll have alot of fun picking out your male and I think you'll really enjoy working with morph balls

Thanks for the input so far!
I didn't know certain pieds tend to be fully white if a morph...any idea why?

Yeah, I'd love to create my own, but I definitely don't have the funding for that!

Plus, doing pieds starting with balls is a great start as it is...instead of messing with spiders like a lot of people I know start off with.

I will have to look further before I come up with an idea...but I think I'd rather it be a project than just pied x pied for sure!

Thanks once again, Kingsnake :3.

I agree with SlytherLyn's lemonblast het pied suggestion. There was one posted here in the last couple of months and it was spectacular. Good luck whichever way you go!
