This is terrible.

A wake up call to do a thorough safety inspection of all one's electrical equipment.

I am a worrywart over my electrical appliances for my snakes and lizards, hence the assumption that the fire started in the shop. Next door is even worse, as there is no way the owners could have taken steps to prevent the fire. This is just such a traumatic catastrophe, I feel really pained in my heart for them.

it burned that room and 2-3 other shops/businesses in the strip mall. Lizards are ok but about 3000 dead snakes

That makes me sick to my stomach. Seeing the racks and imagining me in their position is just insane. Horrible images but at least they are staying semi-positive... I know I couldn't be.

I don't see how Robyn was able to be so "positive"...I know I wouldn't have been able to cope.
What a terrible thing to happen.

I wonder if they ar able to collect on the high end snake values from the insurance company? I wonder what the insurance value the stock was insured for and how is the value determined by a insurance claim adjuster?

This has to be every breeders nightmare! Does anyone know what caused it yet? I've always been nervous about wiring everything with heat strips. Maybe it was something else?

Jorge!!!!
When people have seen my set-ups, they have asked why I don't use UTH heat and thermostats. Thee fires were three fire too many to trust the things. By being careful with Inc. lights as heat sources I have had no problems in the last 20 years. For me the peace of mind is worth it!!!!

varanid Sep 27, 2011 12:01 AM

I've had 2 flameouts from light fixtures. I was there both times so it didn't get far but scared the hell out of me. I upgraded to the really heavy duty ceramic base ones after that for the few animals i use light fixtures for
