New mice room

KingDome Sep 30, 2011 10:28 AM

I want to apologize in advance for what I am about to do. I have some photo's I would like to share all at once, but I only know how to post three at a time. So multiple post. Oh well.

My son went off to collage this year so I turned his room into my new mice breeder room. Here are a few pic's.
They say your kids always come back home. We'll see. Just kidding, I miss him already.

I like those breeder cages a lot, but unless you can find them used, they are pretty expensive. I didn't know they made a cover for them either, that's a nice option. I made a large rack many years ago, out of wood and dish tubs, and I am so glad I did. However it was a project I don't think I'll do again. Each food bin was hand crafted out of weaved sections of wire to make the feeding section hang down into the tub. It was very tedius work. Now I just make the things flat and make the rodents work for it. They are very industrious, lol.

Thanks, Yea, they are very overly priced, they are not that cheep used either, that is why I only have three to start. And the fact that, that is all I need at this point. lol

Your rack is very nice and cost efficient. I can see that a lot of work went into that project. Very nice indeed! What do you have in the screen that they drink out of ? and how is the water bottle connected to that?

That last rack is actually a rat rack, with an Edstrom watering system installed that is gravity fed from a large reservior above. I eventually will do that with all my tubs. It saves so much time filling water bottles. You can get them at Reptile basics d o t com.

Nice set up! And not to get off subject but I noticed the dog food in the feeding troughs! I went to cattle cubes, or range cubes as they are also called, a few years ago and love them! You can get them from any feed store, they are extruded pellets made for range feeding of cattle and the mice really like them! I pay $10.13 for a 50 lb bag and that lasts me 6 month's or so! Also the mice really look healthy and grow well on this feed! It will be a definite savings for you considering the price of dog food.
