Daughter's hide project

KingDome Sep 30, 2011 10:33 AM

My daughter came up with this idea. I was making a hide with expanding foam and she said that looks like a snake. So I made a lot of snakes and she painted them.

More coming.

Well, If I knew more about snakes, I would say you are right. lol. My daughter goggled king snakes and just started painting different ones. The only one I am not sure you are talking about is the milk snake. What color is that one you see?

That would be the one with bright yellow bands.

The one with bright yellow inner triad rings, and the pointed red snout/head.

No doubt a Scarlet kingsnake..LOL!. This is the only one of the original 25 classified milksnake subspecies(triangulum) that also has the name "kingsnake" associated with it's common name, even though all milks and kings belong to the same genus (Lampropeltis).

However, as of 2006, the Scarlet kingsnake was found to be distinct enough to be re-classified as it's own species(Harper), dropping the subspecific name "triangulum". So, for the time being, it is now "Lampropeltis elapsoides".

Thank you. She is 10 and she is what I call a girlie girl. But she is warming up to the snakes pretty good. Yea she is daddy's little helper no matter what I am doing.

As Jorge mentioned about a few, I see a..........

Blair's phase Gray-Banded king(L. alterna

50-50 Cal. king(L.g.californiae)

Speckled king(L.g.holbrooki)

California Mountain king(L. zonata) with typical "flame cross-overs" of black pigment

Scarlet king(L.t.elapsoides)

"High-white" aberrant Cal. king(L.g.californiae)

likely a Ruthven's kingsnake(L. ruthveni) or possibly a MSP Nuevo Leon king(L.m. thayeri)..aka "thayeri"

Eastern Chain king(L.g.getula)

She did some awesome work on some of their head details too!
