bad day.

mbrawley Sep 30, 2011 04:55 PM

I just wanted to tell the only people in my life, that would be able to understand what I'm going through right now, that I too, had a fire this morning in my shop. It was a TOTAL loss, and the fire gutted everything, including my whole collection of adult breeders. Adults, the majority of which, I nurtured and cared for, and raised from babies. And my mice colony. My poor little mice are all dead and burned up. My faithful little mice that tirelessly supported my beloved passion - my snakes.

And my Red Diamond Crotalus, that I caught 5 or so years ago, that I raised from a baby. Dead.

These were all my pets. I genuinly loved them, each one of them. And now, after suffering a horrible death, they're all gone. Nothin worse than looking around and seeing my beloved snakes
Scattered around on the floor, burned up and dead - those of which were somehow able to escape their melting tubs, and make a break for it.

I'm devasted, and sobbing like a baby as I type this. My point to each of you is to double check, and triple check your electical components and wiring. Please. I don't want any of you to go through what I'm going through right now, and what the folks at Pro Exotics is also going through. My thoughts and prayers go out to them as well.

I'll be fine, but it's gonna take a minute for me to regroup, and come to term with my horrific loss.

This blows.

Damn Micah! There's not much I can say except my heart goes out to you man! I'm so sorry that happened. All these fires have got me paranoid. I am really glad I don't use heat under my tubs, but I guess it can start just about anywhere? My prayers go out to you bro! I hope you don't give up!

OMG!!! how horrible Micah!!...I am truly saddened by this news as well as devastating Pro Exotics fire ordeal.

I can only imagine what this reality has to be like.

My best wishes for some sort of recovery from the hurt, and I hope there aren't any animals suffering now...

This is just unbelievable to be hearing about all of these horrible fires!!!

I couldn't believe it when you called me man, I was in shock. I am insanely sorry for you losses and I am here for you as we all are! Knowing you for the last year has inspired me to no end and furthered my love for snakes. I can truly say that you are one of my closest friends and I have your back man. I will do anything that I can to help you in this situation and if I can not make it out tomorrow, I will be there next weekend, no doubt.

You WILL bounce back from this! As horrible as it is, you have a passion for your snakes (be it a gorgeous bone white or an "ugly normal", you don't see a difference and I have not seen that in anyone else in this hobby! We talk nearly every day and at some point, snakes come up... why? because it is our lives!

Stay strong man, everything will work itself out and you will grow back your collection with all of our help to be one that is just as meaningful as the one you lost. If you need anything, don't hesitate to ask us.

My sincerest condolences man,

Jeremy

Dude I am sorry, though I only have two species of snakes (milks) at the moment they are, like your kings, first and foremost pets to me... I couldn't imagine what it would be like to lose them under any circumstance... hopefully you will find plenty of help in rebounding from this.

My heart goes out to you, so sorry. Your tragedy and that of PE should rightly scare us all and compel us herpers to check our setups.

After replying to your post, I'm going to go to the snake room and make sure the reflector domes in use are supported so they can't fall off (I live in earthquake country.)

Oh mann, I heard about this when someone called me today soon after it happened. i didn't want to call because I knew you must be in shock.

no worries though. The troops will get you back and you will rebound from this.

also look on the bright side. That is,, at least the entire house did not catch on fire.

Right now you have a lot on your hands and hopefully with the insurance $$ you can rebuild a nice snakeroom and then some of us can help get you going rebuilding some of what you lost from there.

Freaks me out that fires from these heat tapes or from overloaded electrical outlets starts so easy. I know i will make sure to check everything is super safe.

This is so hard to respond to, and although the "chin up, kid" thing is nice to hear...it's a mere band-aid. I, too, am sorry for your incredible loss. And when you lose something you're so passionate about, whether it be via fire, or theft, or lies stripping you of credibility because of others' stupidity...whatever the case may be, it never is quite the same. Once bitten, twice shy. Of COURSE you'll rebuild and be super anxious next time around, but right now it's devastating. And I hope you have others with you nearby to help you through it all man. It's a process. God bless and Godspeed through it, and in the end come out stronger than ever before. Again, I'm so sorry.
