I'm always impressed by Huge Kingsnakes. Everyone knows Eastern and Floridana Kings get pretty large and on average larger than all the other subs. Although Ive seen a couple near 6' Cal Kings. Im curious as to see who here have any 5.5' or larger Kings? Pics if you have them! also how old is your oldest King?

I have had Shannon Brown's male Amealco ruthveni over here for almost 3 years now.......He has cataracts in both eyes and dimples on every scale......He needs some help shedding from time to time, but he still knows how to devour mice......

He was collected as an adult in 1983 by Lloyd Lemke.....that was nearly 29 years ago.......this male is at least 32 years old but could be older......

He is the parent ruthveni to nearly all of aberrants in the hobby.......
I will get a picture up tomorrow......

The last time I measured this 4 year old male, which was many months ago, he was 68" (5'8" long) and just over 3.75 lbs. I am pretty sure he will be pushing 6 feet as an old adult.

Wow, not only is it huge, but its gorgeous too. Does it eat rats?
-----

DMong Oct 04, 2011 01:19 PM

Thanks Ross,.....

Yeah, he eats small rats. If I happen to be out, I give him a few huge jumbo retired breeder mice. Same with the female, as she is quite large too for a female.

Yeah, he is quite a brute for sure. He is very easy-going too, except for feeding time of course..

Here's a couple of an old unsexed Cal King I raised from a hatchling to a 5'+ beast a while back. He/she was 13 years old in these pics (taken early '02)

Bluerosy Oct 04, 2011 11:37 AM

That one takes the cake since Cal kings are not known to get that big.

Yeah I've yet to see a bigger one in person to this day. I never properly measured it but it was legitimately somewhere over 5' as it would stretch out along the 4' length of it's cage with more than a foot to spare (probably just a few inches over 5'). I've heard lots of people claim to have 5' ers but same old story of when seen in person they are usually nowhere close.

This one I really regret selling off. I was just collecting then & had no interest in breeding at the time so I sold it to a breeder a few months after those last pics, I wanted to make sure someone would keep those big ol' genetics going but never kept in touch.

This Honduran hatched in 1988 and I've had her since 1989. She's of average size - about 4-1/2 feet.

I know I have posted this pic before but, I thought you might like to see it. I took it probably over 20 years ago When the breeders Expo was at the Twin Towers, in Orlando. I don't know who the young man is, I just saw the snake and had to take a picture of it. I heard many people commenting on how unhealthy that was for a snake, others were impressed, lol.

If my memory is correct, I think he said he fed it 8 small rats per week! I couldn't believe it, but I guess it depends on the size of the rats?
