Sable Het Red Axanthics hatched!

jsschrei Oct 05, 2011 01:11 PM

1.1 Sable Het Red Axanthics (Lace Blackbacks) came out of their eggs this morning. Sorry for the shiny pics. These were produced by a sable male x Ballroom Python South Lace BlackBack, which we proved compatible with the Woods line Het Red Axanthic last year for producing Red Axanthics.

I love how dark and gooey these came out. I'm looking forward to seeing how their color is after they shed. I know sables and het reds aren't the most popular morphs, but I think their potential is really untapped. I enjoy the dark morphs and am very pleased with how these turned out.

Photos include a sable and a het red for comparison.

What do you think? Thanks for looking!

Those are some cool looking snakes they will probably look even better after they shed (especially if you can get that light shine off of them (flash or bright lights). They are underrated morphs at this time ( it will change ) It's really hard to get good pics of dark snakes. Repost after they shed.

Thanks Mike. I'll definitely post photos after they shed when they aren't so shiny

Thanks Heather!

I'll post post-shed pics for sure. I really pleased with them. Now that they've been out of their eggs for a bit you can see a lot of chocolatey color in them, but also a lot of black. I can't wait to see them in their new skins

Very cool Jess. They remind me a lot of the Gargoyles. I may have to do this next year.

Thanks! I was thinking the same thing about looking similar to the gargoyles. I am not suprised at all based on the morphs that are involved. They have not shed yet, but I can see that they have more brown tones under that baby skin than I think the gargoyles do. I am looking forward to seeing if thier dark color will hold with age or if it will fade like gargoyles.

That's a great project Jessica! Will look forward to seeing what else you produce with these two morphs
