Platinum Anery

Guy Scavone II Oct 07, 2011 12:07 AM

Had a few emails on them in the past 2 days and figured this would be a good way to explain what they are and show some pics.

I bought 2.2 animals from a pet store in 2001 thinking they were jungles. All 4 were totally striped and looked exactly like one another. This is the matriarch.

Bred them together and produced a litter of pastels and anery's. Not what I was expecting at all. I did the breeding again and got this guy.

At this point I was hoping I had hit on something new, but he was the only one that looked that extreme. The next year Big Mike proved them to be incompatible with the original anery strain (huge surprise to us) and all I wanted now was DH's for both lines.

Everyone told me I was crazy, that it wasn't worth the effort, but they're different. And together who knows! So I tried... for 4 years to no avail to get any of the adult Platty Females to go for me. Finally this year I hit (of course, it's always like that). I used this male from the normal anery line (and an adult platty female) to make the DH's.

So those are going to be the only animals I plan on keeping around here. So maybe in 4 years I'll get the chance to pop out something new!!!

Here's some assorted Platty pics from this years litter (first one since 2005)

Thanks for looking!!!

These are really neat interesting Anery Boas. I find it so amazing that
they look so much like typical Anery type I Boas but are incompatible.

This is a very good project for you to continue and keep alive.

I'm glad you still will continue to be involved in the Boa world !

Guy,

These are impressive!! Way to stick with the project and what a reward for doing so!!

Was curious, you said you " thought the 2.2 original boas were jungles"... what did you end up deciding on them then? That they arent?

I'm not sure ( and wanted to ask you) if my motley boy I got from you was an offspring from any of that 2.2 purchase you made back then? I have offspring from that Motley DH that looks exactly like your "matriarch" photo and they have caused questions since they were born. I have other crazy aberrant pattered boas from the same litter that dont have that chain-linked pattern but other intense aberrancies, so I am really curious if they are related to this matriarch and what you ended up deciding was the root of her aberrancies ( if jungle or not) Seems crazy (and cool) that it could be getting passed along through the generations!! Interesting stuff and possibilities for sure!!!

Thanks in advance
