Boas at Tinley

justinelianse Oct 08, 2011 11:06 PM

There's a guy with an auction at the Tinley show that is claiming he has a new line of anery and directed me to this site. He said there's a post explaining them. I saw the post below, but am not convinced. Is there anyone that has these in their collection that has bred them and proven them out? Seems pretty convenient to be selling these things on the cheap and claiming them to be something new.

He has photos of all of them at www.albinoboa.com but they just look like normal aneries to me.

The person you are referring to is Guy Scavone, who is one of the more reputable breeders in this hobby. His line of anery is referred to as platinum anery, which is said to be a different strain of anery.

You will likely not find anyone who has expiremented with this gene yet because there are so few animals of this line in existence.

You said they look like normal anery to you, which may be true, but looks are not everything. The claim that this is a new line of anery comes because guy bred his platinum anery to a normal strain anery and did not produce a single anery animal. Instead, he had a litter of normal appearing offspring that are double heterozygous for both strains of anery. Therefore, that means the 2 strains are incompatible and different from one another, regardless of whether or not they appear similar to the naked eye.

The same can be said about kahl and sharp strain albinos. Look very similar and nearly imposible to tell apart (especially as babies), yet breeding them together will not produce albinos because they are not compatible. Instead the pairing makes normal appearing offspring that are double heterozygouss for both strains of albino.

Hope this helps

Well said. I would add there are many different bloodlines of Anery, this is the only other non-compatible bloodline of Anery that had been reproduced. A few other non-compatible Anerys have been stumbled upon over the years. However Guy is the only one to the long term multiple breeding to actually make additional Anerys of a different type.

Just wanted to point out, Guy said that Big Mike was the one who bred a platinum anery from Guy to another anery, from aneries we normally see, and got double hets. Just wanted to point that out. However Guy did say he produced two litters from the striped animals he purchased originally thinking that they were jungles, and got pastels and aneries in both litters but got the wicked platinum anery in the second breeding. Thanks and have a great sunday everyone.
