Sit down and be AMAZED, I was!!!!!!

rainbowsrus Oct 09, 2011 02:58 PM

Four years ago A local girl had a litter of BRB's that showed some promising dorsal striping. She brought them over and I bought 1.1 of them right then at 4 days old. The thought was to raise them up and see if I could get more dorsal zigzag striping.

Ziggy pre-shed:

Ziggy post-shed:

Ziggy in October 2010:

Zoe pre-shed:

Zoe post-shed:

Zoe in March 2011.

I finally bred the two this year, I felt Zoe was not quite up to size last year so I waited. She swelled up huge:

I do anticipate all my litters and while I was hoping for some nice Zigzag stripes, this was not a pins and needles, pacing the floor waiting for the babies kind of litter.

It SHOULD have been!!!!!

She had a modified due date of 10/12, being in a boaphile cage I used 130 days post POS for the due date. On 10/08, four days early, I walked into the BRB room to see the door all fogged up and this little gem in the corner on the right hand door hinge:

I saw some normal ones slithering around and then spotted this other gem by the left hand door hinge:

Of course like Cliff just posted there was a baby wrapped around the door lock and I had to tap and jiggle the latch to get that baby to climb down. This is the first one I had seen by the right side door latch...

After I pulled a few loose ones:

All 17 live babies:

There were 17 total live babies with 5 full or mostly striped babies.

How cool is this?

Pre-shed pics of the five full or mostly striped babies..

DAVE, huge congrats, you've got some serious aliens in there!!!! Those truly are crazy looking!! Can't wait to see how they look as they grow and start shedding!!

Is number 1 ok??? I sure hope so, but it seems like it has some sort of kink or two in it?? Hopefully its just something with the pics but just wondering!!

Either way, looking forward to updated pics!!!

Thanks Ike, they are pretty cool and look better in person. Yes, #1 does have a spinal issue mid body right at the umbilical slit. Fortunately it's a male. Will be watching to see what happens there. At least it's not a severe deformity and may very well grow out of it.

Hey Dave, awesome babies. Hopefully that minor kink doesn't cause any problems. Have you figured out how many males and females in that litter yet?

That's a good ratio. Which striped baby is female?

#2 is the female striped baby. IMO the second best stripe in the whole litter.

I have found my boaphile cages with under tank heaters are not conducting heat to the gravid female as well as my larger cages with overhead radiant heat panels. I have them set several degrees higher but still not getting as warm. That seems to be equating to a longer gestation time. Lower temps = longer gestation.

Plus I think the Mom's are simply better at absorbing the radiant heat through their darker top side then absorbing ground heat through their lighter under side.

What a lovely litter! I can't wait to see how they color up.

rainbowsrus Oct 11, 2011 11:47 AM

Done mainly for myself to document the history of Z&Z.....

Putting two and two together and documenting the details from archived forum posts....

Ziggy and Zoe were produced by Jess Losse, born 05/16/2007 from "Cleo" and "Noah". The litter was described as 7.7 and also a report of one baby escaping, don't know if that was included in the total or not. I bought 1.1 only a few days after birth pre-shed. Jess did keep one male for herself (Zeek) and I do not know where the rest went.

This appears to be Cleo's first litter and Noah's second. Noah's first litter was the prior year with "Copper" and produced 7 babies on 06/18/2006. Jess also kept one baby from this litter "Isis".

Both Zeek and Isis were listed in her closing and at some point Zeek was no longer there, I did not find confirmation if he was sold or lost as well.

Unfortunately, Jess lost both parents less than a year later.

Noah deceased 11/11/2007 (found deceased - no reason known)
Cleo deceased 02/27/2008 (complications from retained slugs)

Jess was young and might not have been giving them the full level of attention that she should have. I know she was going through a rough time with parental issues, moving etc. In one post she found one of her BRB's had escaped and was eating her pet bird. Other animals were also lost in that time period.
