Dontcha love it when something NEW....

rainbowsrus Oct 09, 2011 06:54 PM

pops up unexpectedly?

Four years ago A local girl had a litter of BRB's that showed some promising dorsal striping. She brought them over and I bought 1.1 of them right then at 4 days old. The thought was to raise them up and see if I could get more dorsal zigzag striping.

Ziggy pre-shed:

Ziggy post-shed:

Ziggy in October 2010:

Zoe pre-shed:

Zoe post-shed:

Zoe in March 2011.

I finally bred the two this year, I felt Zoe was not quite up to size last year so I waited. She swelled up huge:

I do anticipate all my litters and while I was hoping for some nice Zigzag stripes, this was not a pins and needles, pacing the floor waiting for the babies kind of litter.

It SHOULD have been!!!!!

She had a modified due date of 10/12, being in a boaphile cage I used 130 days post POS for the due date. On 10/08, four days early, I walked into the BRB room to see the door all fogged up and this little gem in the corner on the right hand door hinge:

I saw some normal ones slithering around and then spotted this other gem by the left hand door hinge:

Of course like Cliff just posted there was a baby wrapped around the door lock and I had to tap and jiggle the latch to get that baby to climb down. This is the first one I had seen by the right side door latch...

After I pulled a few loose ones:

All 17 live babies:

There were 17 total live babies with 5 full or mostly striped babies.

How cool is this?

Pre-shed pics of the top ten babies, five full or mostly striped and five with dorsal zigzags..

Thanks and not negative at all, there is a small issue at the umbilical slit. Fortunately it's a male and will just have to wait and see what happens.

Only someone like you who has committed so much time to working with these animals would have noticed the ever so slight zig-zag markings. This is an absolutely amazing find for your rainbow projects. Congratulations on this new morph. What are you going to call it?

Anthony-

rainbowsrus Oct 10, 2011 10:39 AM

Hi Anthony, as I was talking it over last night with my wife I came to the realization that the zig-zag markings may or may not have anything to do with the stripe. Not saying they don't, just that nothing is proven at this time.

Have not decided what to call it but would entertain names.

Thanks Mike, I'd add commitment to the projects/species you're working with is also key. I've already started thinking long term on how to blend them in with everything!!
