Black and gray and pink all over...

Kevin Saunders Oct 12, 2011 07:43 AM

Next year should be an interesting breeding season. I've got 5 different lines of pink anery morphs now and I thought I'd share a some new pics of a few.

First up is this new coral ghost I just got yesterday (I'll get better pics after she settles in).

Here's a new shot of my holdback specter from this year's clutch.

And finally, a salmon snow from Don...

I'll be excited to see what results from crossing some of these lines/morphs, I just hope I can interpret the results with some accuracy to figure out what's compatible and what isn't and the mode of inheritance.

It will be interesting to see what results you get. You realize that to get accurate readings you will need to hold back almost all, or most the offsprings, at least till they start showing their adult colors? I've done that with some of my locally caught Polk County corns.

Jorge, sounds like you assume I've got a good enough handle on the genetics to know what I'm looking at when they're grown, haha. Seriously though, I doubt I'll be the one to do much groundbreaking in figuring out this mess, but I'm hoping I'll be able to send some offspring off to Don Soderburg, Chuck Pritzel, and some of the other corn genetics gurus.

I'm sure I'll be holding some back, but I'll probably have to depend on feedback from others who can keep some to maturity. On the bright side, any color modifiers that turn out not to be compatible/allelic should produce double hets-so there's even a nice silver lining if the immediate results are less than spectacular.

Hey Kevin I'm in the same boat. I've read up quite a bit, on the trials others have done before us, but even they are not really sure what's going on with all these pinks snakes. I hope to do some breeding trials myself in the next few years also. For me it's fun tinkering around and seeing what comes out.

That's half the fun for sure. Looks like your specters are turning out really nice by the way-what are your plans for them?

You know I haven't sat down and really charted it out, but I do have a motley Strawberry het for Anery, and a striped ghost which I will breed to see what happens there, and test the Strawberry theory again. I also have some Anery Bloodreds that I may throw in the mix, and maybe a Snow het for fire. I'm just not certain about anything except the pair of Specters themselves right now.
