Variation in Peruvian Locale BRBs

Jeff Clark Oct 13, 2011 12:16 AM

All four of these Peruvian locale Brazilian Rainbows were born here in two of my 2010 litters. Two are typical orange and red color. One is atypically dark and one was orange but has recently faded out. The change in color that these snakes go through is amazing. All four of these snakes were decidedly plain for their first few months. The orange one and the red one were looking really pretty about the time they were six months old. Going through this change from plain colored to pretty usually occurs later and more slowly in these snakes. The red and orange one and the faded one had been listed for sale with my other 2010 babies but did not sell and so got "heldback" by default. The dark one was extra dark even as a baby and was the only one of the four I intentionally held back. I hope to see her and two of her similar looking siblings I also held back turn even darker as they grow. I am not sure what is going on with the fading one. I will post more photos after she sheds. Raising these snakes is kind of like having your birthday every week. Each time one of them sheds it is like opening another present.

The dark one is 46F. This is what she looked like early this year with her Kel-Tec P32 auto.

The dark one was in this litter.

The redder one is 27F and this is what she looked like when she was little. I think this photo is from about a year ago.

>>The orange one is 18M and this is what he looked like several months ago.

The red one and the orange one and the faded one were all in this litter. Notice how plain colored the babies are compared to their mother. A few from the litter like 18M have turned out orange like mom. Most are redder like 27F.

Very interesting how they color up even slower. Can you share some progression pics with us? First shed vs current. Maybe some interim pics if you have them.
