Tokays and UVB lamp

artamir Oct 02, 2003 04:07 AM

I have a young tokay female (15 cm) and she stays all day long in her comfortably and obscure lair. I can see her regularly at the 'sunshine' and in the night. So: What's it for an UVB lamp? However, i've found a full UVB neon tube, a full spectrum with 5% of UVB rays, and another full spectum with 7% of UVB. What have i to do about this? Can i take a blue neon tube to little light the night to see her? If i can, what a kind of light hav i to purchase? Tnx to everyone...

Any kind of light which produces mild heat for basking and is not too bright will suffice.
Tokays do not need UVB.

I use red reptile bulbs mostly by Zoo Med. You can get diff watts to suit your needs and size of tank. They allow viewing at night, basking and dont bother their eyes.

I put a 3% UVB light into my cage and I noticed that after each heavy meal the night before, my tokay will sit under the light and bask so to speak. I dont think he's after the heat because its evenly hot lately I think he actually feels the UV or something instinctive like that.
