Python Help

chefdev Oct 21, 2011 10:36 AM

I know this is not a ball but Im sure someone here has seen this before. I only deal with kings usually and have never seen this.

Below is a male savu I just recieved from reptmart about 30 min ago. He has two lacerations on both sides of his vents.

He is otherwise healthy, strong and active.

Please look

So, Savu Python, right?

Pythons and Boas have spurs. These are located on either side of the vent. This is normal. All pythons and boas have these. Not lacerations!

You should always contact the breeder/seller with any questions prior to posting. Give the seller a chance to discuss and answer any questions you may have.

I hear what you are saying, I am not bashing them at all. It is a great snake and am not too concerned. It looks like it is healing, whatever it is. I am not intending to give them any bad press here.

I have two other savus and neither of them have anything like this... Are you saying they all get them at one point or another?

In the pics you posted I see NO lacerations or "healing"... I see spurs. I am not an expert on this species of python. However, all pythons and boas, to my knowledge have spurs. Males generally have larger spurs. The spurs are always there.

....this species is not as common so I highly recommend that you contact reptmart with concerns you may have.

I hope you find the answers that you need.

Well thats just it.. There is not much info out there. I know its all pretty new.

I am new to pythons as well. I have a male GTP but the rest are all king species.

Thanks again for the info. I have a message out to the owners husband with my concerns. Kim assured me that her husband took a look at the snake himself before shipping and said everything was great.

If you are interested in some pics check out my face book. They are really unique. They look very metalic like with lots of shiny colors in the sunlight.

Hello,
Yes all boas and pythons have spurs, and the only thing I see in your photos are spurs. Both males and females have them. Usually males spurs are bigger.....but not always. He uses his spurs to rake the female during breeding to "help get her in the mood". Savus are no different. I've had savus. Their care is pretty routine from what I remember....But you should do research on the animals before you buy....If you can't find much....ask the breeder for care info before you do, so if it does, he can help you out........

I'm a little surprised you haven't seen these on your GTP....... Check that fella out..I'm sure you'll find them on it as well, unless it's spurs are really small.....

I'm also a little concerned with your statement that they're "healing". Spurs don't just go away, they have them from birth. Did you do something to the area????? I also would like to say I've dealt with the Bells numerous times and my stock from them are some of my best feeder and breeders. I find it very hard to think Mark would do anything deceptive. Send him the pics....He'll explain the same thing to you.........
