Meet Sorka (thanks Dave!)

Kth_dragon Oct 23, 2011 06:58 PM

One of Dave's 2010 babies has come to live with me. After allowing her 3 days to acclimate to her new surroundings, I had her out for some handling and photo opportunities. Sadly, I only had a cell phone to capture her, and these don't really do her justice. I hope to get much better ones when my husband can make it home; he's got much better cameras and should be able to show the iridescence properly.

Enjoy the pictures! ^..^

Hey Kerry, glad you like her and that she went to a good home.

Please post more pics of her as she matures.

I certainly will! She's such a beautiful subject, though she was much more interested in looking at me than the camera today. LOL

What do you have her housed in? Did you get to make the cool wardrobe conversion tank thingie you've always talked about?

No, I couldn't find a piece of furniture that wasn't either too huge, too delicate, too cheap, or too expensive to sacrifice that way. Maybe someday, though... I'll always keep an eye out.

I've got her in one of these: www.showcasecages.com/Colors.htm

I have Desert Granite, the 48" long model, with a 2' tall black stand; that way she'll never grow out of it. I've sealed up the area for the fluorescent lighting and the part of the heat-lamp area that isn't covered by the "just for when I need to see in there" lamp, so it's keeping humidity very well. I have a corner water bowl on each end, some good hiding places (including stuff I've placed nearly flat on the bedding), and cypress bedding.

So far, so good, though she blends in with the bedding so well I have trouble finding her at times. >..>

Sounds like you've gone above and beyond what many people do for their rainbow boas!!! Props to you!!! I love hearing about someone with a well thought out cage and that obviously does their research!!

People like you help to counteract the unfortunately large number of people you see posting saying, "just got a new baby brb, how do I house it, feed it, care for it etc"

Sorka is lucky!!!

Nice! I actually walled off a section of my melamine cage (it's very similar) so that I wouldn't have a hard time finding Garnet if need be. I just move it back to expand the cage as she grows. She doesn't burrow as much now that she's a little bigger, but the dark substrate really is great camouflage!

Thankfully now that it's been awhile, she's found she enjoys being inside/under the hides I've placed in there rather than just burrowed into the substrate. She's much easier to locate when I only have to pick up four things rather than dig around everywhere with my finger. :P
