They seem great together! Very nice healthy sliders too. Makes me feel good to see the result of people caring about these turtles. Keep up the good work.

They look great! Btw how big is the larger RES? He looks humungous in that pic!

He does look huge relative to the small one, but in actuality, he is about 5 inches long. The small one is like 1 1/2 inches long. Pretty funny, huh?

I could have said the small one is about 5 iinches long, and the big one is about 24... lol.

Then you would have gotten a ton emails from folks wanting to buy the 24 inch slider since it is DOUBLE maximum size they get. LOL!! a seaturtle slider!!

The first time I put the little guy in, the big one went after him and he sank all the way to the bottom. Then he tried to swim up, for air I guess, and he was having a hard time. I think since he looked so helpless and struggling, the big guy went after him again... thats when I pulled him out.

I gave the little guy another 2 weeks, then I put him in again. Little stronger, bigger, who knows... but when I put him in he held his own. The big guy went at him and he swam away... then he chased him and appeared to smell him for a while then left him alone. That picture was posted the following morning,

My advice: Let the little guy get strong and a little bigger before you put him in.

Get a bigger tank. Some friends of mine who have a RES left him with me for the weekend. At their house, he lives in a rubbermaid tub with a couple inches of water. Hes about 2.5 inches long. It took him about 2 days to learn to really swim in my 120 gal. It was funny to see a turtle that size that seemed like he couldnt swim properly. My painted was swimming circles around him for a while, but eventually he got better and after a couple days had little or no trouble evading the painted. Also, it seemed once he learned how to swim, the painted lost interest in following him everywhere.

Perhaps turtles are drawn to a struggling animal because in the wild it means an easy meal. Once your smaller turtle is agile in the water, it will seem more like just one of the guys.
