How often have you guys not produced a homozygous animal from 100% het pairings? I had a four egg clutch hatch with no lav albinos. Total bummer. The hets are from a reputale breeder so I have no doubt of genetics. Just thought I would ask. Info would be much appreciated.

Someone else might be better to follow this up or give you better first hand knowledge or experience but I have heard that Ralph Davis had some hets that he made so he knew they were 100% but it took him 3 seasons of clutches to put out a visual. Believe me I am not so patient...lol. I know what the odds should be for things and this year I bred my visual Pied male to a 100% het female and got 1 visual out of 6 eggs. Should have been 50/50 not 15/85..lol. Not real good odds but that shows how things can work. I am interested in the RDR story as to if it was 100% het to 100% het or if he was using Visual to 100% het for anyone that might have more knowledge on that story. Jay

I have never had it happen....how's that...

in poss het ---to het or visual...it happened more than a couple......with small clutches....

.....so....one ...more...year....and you'll try again...

feed her a bunch and try and get 7 eggs this next time...

Yes, the more eggs the better the odds.

The chance of 4 normals in a row from het X het is 0.75^4 = 31%. With 7 eggs it goes down to 0.75^7 = 13%. So with 4 eggs you only have to be the unlucky about 1 in 3 but with 7 eggs you would have to be the unlucky 2 in 15. Either is quite possible but the more eggs the more unlikely a miss becomes.

lessers 2 sable 3 ,normal 1 (but dark ?)...and-- lesser sable the 1 female.....((all totally the oposite of what you'd want)))

so the sable gene hit on all but 1 of 7 ...lesser hit 3 of 7....

...odds....all odds....you gotta feel lucky...think lucky...and don't let your male making friend's touch your eggs or your incubator...heck...don't let them look at the eggs...heck...don't let them in the house...LOL

We had a clutch from a Spider male to a Normal female. 5 eggs and all normals. Not hets, I know but still an example of how it goes sometimes...

This year I breed a male pied to 100% het female. 11 eggs no pieds. Last year male pied to 100% het female 10 eggs one pied.

I apparently sucked all the pied luck out of Colorado this year (5 pieds in 12 eggs from a 50% chance het pied to two 25% chance het pieds). Next year will be Marshall's turn again (I seem to remember a hypo jigsaw popping out of an unknown het hypo pinstripe a few years back). If it makes you feel any better one of my pieds died in the egg and the other 4 where all male ...

YOu get to go to Las Vegas.

With pied being almost co-dominant proving well markered possible hets wasn't a big deal but I was lucky on the number of pieds. I've got two more 25% chance het pied girls that should start producing this year and I'll be surprised if they don't also prove.

Randy, since you guys are on the topic of pieds and het pied markers, are there any other markers except the solid black lines running down the sides of the belly by the vent? I have a big girl that i bought as a baby from a pet shop as a normal a few years back, im putting my het male to her to try and prove her out but just curious if there are other markers i can check for. thank you.

Pastel 100% het Clown to Pastel 100% het Clown. 9 eggs (2 went bad) NO CLOWNS! Maybe one or both of the eggs that went bad was the Golden Egg.

I had 12 eggs from a trio (1.2) of het ghost a few years ago, all the babies were "wild type". The following year I got ghosts from both females.
