The Yellow Egg Beater

ReptileZ Oct 02, 2003 10:45 AM

Err, I mean Yellow Egg Eater! This yellow ratsnake is 5ft long, semi-defensive, and is a definate musker. Anyone ever notice that these snakes have kind of a tar smell to them?

My bairdi smell like burnt metal. Weird. It'd be funny if the best way to properly classify them is by their musk smell.

Beautiful snake. The only snakes I've been musked by are Cal kings, which smell unlike anything else I've smelled before.

You just haven't lived until you've been musked by a big diamondback watersnake.

man, I got everything from his throat down it seemed. I sexed the little guy (03) when I first got him and he just sprayed and sprayed and sprayed. I expected it so he only got his cage nasty, but it had a funk to it.

I was at a petshop a few years back, and the owner was sexing a juv florida kingsnake (probably wc as well).. When she started to probe it, it sprayed a stream of crap probably about 2 ft, right on to her face. Talk about a good aim lol.....

That's where the fox snakes got their common name. Some of the Asians are particularly pungent. I get sprayed often when cleaning or just holding some species.
