What are the pros and cons of the Oil filled heaters vs. the portable baseboard heaters. I was looking into the baseboards to possibly replace my oil filled, because my bottom bin (still 8 inches off the floor) gets too cold (WITH a fan circulating the air). I would like to hear from some people that use the baseboards and what they have to say about it.

Im going to say that even baseboard heating is still only going to warm whatever is near them since heat rises. I use an oil heater with the ceiling fan running in reverse(sucking the air up)and it seems to do a good job of taking the air up and spilling it out around the room and doing a pretty good job of heating everything "pretty evenly". The ideal way would be to have in floor heating like some people do up north if they choose to heat like that to keep their feet nice and warm in the winter months. Even there you might have a problem with the floor level tubs being warmer than the higher ones but I would say with that heating setup and running a fan you would get about as an ideally even heating as you could possibly have. to get even air temp circulation, its a good idea to put your fans up high or mounted on the ceiling. This way when the heat rises, the fan will circulate it back down and around the room. This should also keep the bottom tubs the same temps as the top ones. It does for me !

If you are having a lot of trouble with the bottom bins, I recommend laying down foam sheeting under the rack. You can pick up different thickness at home depot and cut it to fit. It's pretty cheap ($10.50 for a 4' x 8' sheet). Great R factor insulation.

Personally, I use a fan and have no need for extra floor insulation as others have stated.
