vacation

What do you guys do with your lizards when you're on vacation? My cousin is getting married in July but I am debating not going because I have no one to take care of Pebbles and Bam Bam.

I just turn out the lights for a few days...just replicate some crappy weather. Put in a dish of water, and a dish of mealworms when you leave. They will be fine. I would only be concerned if they were not in optimal health before I left for vacation.

PS...It would be a great excuse not to go to your cousins wedding though :P

First and foremost...they don't like mealworms. Secondly, they couldn't even process the food if the cage wasn't warm enough....hmmm good thing no one is buying plane tickets yet.

They would have no problem processes the food either. I wouldn't suggest keeping them cool for 4 weeks and feeding them. Chances are they will not eat. The food, if eaten, will stick around a bit longer than normal. Kind of like when lizards eat food in the wild, then they get a cold snap, or it rains for one week straight. They don't come out and bask in crappy weather. They can thermoregulate still, beneath rocks, but in the spring and fall, I doubt they will warm enough to pass food as quickly as in a warm cage.

It is perfectly ok to leave them alone for a week even.

Just give them the UV light and leave the heat lamps off.

Good chance they will not even come out from hiding. Their calorie burn will be extremely low and I think they will be fine for even two weeks that way(anybody tried that yet)

I also think it is not a good idea to feed them like crazy before you leave. In my opinion it is better not to feed them for two days before you leave so thier guts are clean and food will not rot in there!

Hydrate them well before you go and have fun!!

I just came back from 5 days away. Didnt give them any light. It was warm here in SOCAL i think the house was between 75 and 85 degrees. I noticed there had been activity in the cage. I turned the timers back on They came out as nothing happened. They didnt even look much skinnier. I started feeding and they just consumed their normal amounts. They are really not THAT smart!!
