I use plastic non slip shelf liners. It could be bought at like a wal mart for 2 bucks a roll. For my 4x2x2 I need 2 rolls. With this you can keep the cages very clean cause as they poop you can clean it out with a spray water bottle, and paper towels. If you plan to keep poop in the cages for longer then 2 days this would not be a good choice because they could run through it. But if you spot clean daily I've yet to find a more sanitary, cheap, and easier way to do it. Every week I soak them is a lite bleach solution, really making sure all the smells of the bleach is out. I let it hang and dry over night and it is ready to go back in the morning. While these are drying I just use paper towels, or now I don't even need that cause I got two sets for each cage so when 1 gets dirty I switch it for the other. I like it cause there is no way they can ingest it, and get impacted and die, it's sanitary for them, no sand or other particles getting in their salads, and it's cheap. When you have more then a couple beardies you look for the easiest, safest, cleanest way to do it in shorter times. And personally I think loose substrates are the pits to do a thorough cleaning out.
