Heating a rack?(best flex watt option)

1nstinct Nov 06, 2011 12:58 PM

so I'm going to be building a rack system for my adult ball pythons, but a little confused on what the best way to line the flex watt. The rack is going to be 36"(l) x 20"(w) x by 49"(h). would it be better to run 2 rows of 3" flex watt down the long side(36" of the rack, or just going with a 11" flex watt one one side of the rack(20"?
The snakes are more of pets then breeders so there will be some lighting down the back for viewing. only reason for the rack is because my room is getting too crowded with all the enclosures all over.

thanks for the help in advance
Tom

I use 4" flexwatt on my 28qt rack. I've been told that for everything except 41qt 3" flexwatt provides enough heat to get the ambient temps up if your room is "comfortable". On the 41qt, I've been told to use 11".

Sounds like the tubs will be ar/cb70 or similar? I would use 1 foot of 12" 20watt flexwatt under each tub, placed in the back. This will raise temps to well over 100 (120 poss.) so a reliable thermostat will be required.
