sleeping and not eating...

kailaya Oct 02, 2003 11:56 AM

Hi guys,
Kameko has been sleeping in his hide for four days. He has not eaten at all. He was doin fine in the new place, more lively than usual. His coloring has been dull, so I'm thinking he might be going into shed but I didn't know if I should let him be or coerce him to come out.

Also, should i bathe him now or wait till he starts to shed???

thanks,

tara

Brumation probably mine havent eaten for a little bit either, but i still keep the food in their tank just in case. They have also not been comming out but maybe 30 min to an hour a day. So probably just brumation not to be worried, they are smart animals. also the skin shedding soemtiems they take weeks or monthes to shed unless you think he is ahving a real problem no worried just make sure it all gets off in the end. Also remember to dry that tail REALLY well after a bath, good to use a blow dryer.
Good luck

i have noticed that the temps were higher in the other tank. in this one the bask is only 105 now, soooo, i am going to buy a higher wattage bulb today. Should I let him brumate??? I hear that if you keep the temps consistant, they should only go into it for a short while. Let me know what you think???

thanks,
tara

it will not hurt him to brumate, they will all do it most likely no matter what but some do not. if your intents are not to breed them then it doesnt matter how long he does it, or if he doesnt do it at all. If the temperatures were lower than that might do it but i kept everything the same for my guys and they just did it anyways, this morning i cut back the lighting so they will really brumate now.
Good luck and any more questions feel free, i hope i answered your question.
Also it is getting a little colder and if you do not yet have the heat on the temps will go down. when you turn the heat on makesure it doesnt get *too* hot in there. we havent turned ours on yet so it has been a little lower not much however.

The same thing happened to my uro the other day. He hadn't eaten anything in his bowl and was nowhere to be seen. I found him sleeping in one of his hides.

I then noticed the cool side temp was only at 80F. I added another heat lamp to bring it back to 90ish and he's fully awake again and eating as usual as of yesterday.

....now I just have to decide if i want to try brumating him...

i got another bulb and am going to up his temps.

No, I'm not going to try and breed him, hopefully, I'll be the only girl in his life!

thanks for the info! its probably brumation.
