Would this be a worthwhile dinker?

kdreptiles Nov 06, 2011 09:41 PM

Is he worth breeding? If so, what should I breed him to? His colors keep getting better and better with age and he has green eyes. His head is totally faded.

I'll post a pic of him as a baby and him today.

Definitely interesting. Could be a highlighter gene, could be something else. As to weather or not it is worthwhile, the true answer that you probably do not want to hear is that the value is in the eye of the beholder. I personally would breed every normal that I own just to find out if there is anything "going on" with it or not. Too many morphs and "morph un-lockers" have been discovered to think that it is NOT worthwhile to dinker with ANY normal. (My personal opinion) It's a good thing that we are all entitled to them, or everyone else would be wrong.

That was actually a great response, lol. Thanks!

If that was a female I would totally dink her. Beautiful snake, reminds me of a yellowbelly. As a male I would not be so interested, as it would mean the sacrifice of a clutch or two to prove out. If I had a large colony going and had some spare females to throw at him I might feel differently, but with a smaller collection I would really need to see something striking to work with a male.

He is a Beautiful snake none the less,

Mark

Definitely! I would breed him to various ghost morphs. Then if possible a desert, or fire to see if something reacts to it. Pastel might wash it out depending on the color of the mother.
Nice luck on the acquisition.

I have a male that looks like him the only differance is some of his pattern looks like it was traced with a highlighter sort of like it dried and then faded. I breed him to a normal last year and the the offspring was 3 normal looking babies and two that looked like super washed out pewters that ended up dying after a couple of days. I dont know if they were under developed or if that was the color they were going to be. The snakes appered be full term body wise but the color was nothing I have seen before or since. I breed him to the same female this year but she did not take I was hoping for the same color but healthy babies this year but you know how that goes. I will try again and see what happens. When I bought the snake the breeder called it a pastel wanna be. He has a faded head pattern that looks like a four leaf clover hope its good luck. I would breed it if I were you.

Thanks everyone! Breeding him won't be for awhile, until I can get my financial situation in order and get a female for him. Go figure, 5 ball pythons, only one female! Right now I'm breeding my spider to my female but if I don't see a lock I may just put this guy in with her.

If I were you, I would get a Yellowbelly female and breed him to her and cross your fingers. You may be in for a big surprise!

Thanks Jason (and everybody!) I might just have to try with a yb female. In time, in time!
