What to breed with my snake???

huxta Nov 07, 2011 10:35 PM

I have an albino cross of a Puebla and Nelson's. I was looking for suggestions on a good mate to purchase for good offspring. I was thinking of the Honduran line but not sure. Should I get a regular, albino, ghost????

I think you may want to direct that question to the hybrid forum. Most all of the posters here do not approve of mixing ssp. You may get an answer you are looking for over there. You may also see pics of people that have done it already. Just my honest opinion.

You're just going to make a genetic mess by breeding that snake to anything. Most people don't like crosses and hybrids.

You should try it with a very large eastern Indigo! just put them together and walk away.

The very existence of flamethrowers means that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves..."You know, I really want to set those people over there on fire...but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

I tried to insert some George Carlin humor a while ago in my ads but they got deleted. Shame. George is a comic genius.

Blue vein viper all the way. That will be an incredible new look to the already stellar specimen you have.

The answer you’re probably looking for is another milk that is derived from the same albino line so that you’ll get more albinos but I’m going on the assumption that you haven’t thought this breeding thing through as evidenced by the fact that you bought “a” snake and now are asking such a basic question. You’re likely to catch a lot of cr*p here because you’re working with a hybrid but I’m going to take a different perspective, why breed it at all regardless of its hybrid status? Have you considered the implications of having to start and responsibly move the resulting offspring? The last thing this hobby needs is increased participation on the breeding side particularly by someone who hasn’t though it out. There is nothing wrong with just keeping a few snakes. Breeding them is not a prerequisite for being a herper.

Hope I didn’t come across as to harsh but even those animals produced in well-conceived programs are difficult to move in this economy. MOST people don’t breed cats or dogs willie nillie because they feel they have an ethical responsibility to see that the animals they have a hand in bringing into this world are placed in good homes. I’m increasingly asking myself why those who profess to love them do not afford reptiles the same level of respect.
