Probiotics?? CheriS- please help....

brdfreak Oct 02, 2003 12:24 PM

I have no idea what these are or where to get them. Are they over the counter? I feel so stupid but I guess everyone has to learn from somewhere. Sorry I couldn't respond to posts yesterday I generally only get to use the computer once a day unless I get off early or miss work. Thanks for your help!!

Probiotics are digestive tract balances for the gut flora.......acidopholis is one and petsmart usually carries it or you can get it at the health food store. Parazap is another......you can get it at www.parazap.com or from my website as well. Take care.

The way I understand it is Parazap is a natural wormer and Acidopholiz is a digestive track conditioner. Is Parazap a wormer with a digestive conditioner? I'm confused.

Parazap is a probiotic...like acidopholis....just another kind and has some different ingredients and benefits as well.

Right now I'm using Albon and giving Acidopholiz. Do you think it would be more beneficial to use the Parazap or Acidopholiz for coccidia? Or do you think they will be equally as effective?

Thanks for your help!

I really can't say about the acidopholis.....I have never used it......parazap has been known in many cases to bring the coccidia levels back to normal and rid other parasites as well. Maybe Cheri or someone who uses the acidopholis can better advise you.

Acidopholiz just because on the Parazap they seem to focus more on getting rid of parasites. The Acidopholiz mainly speaks of intestinal tract conditioning.

Thanks again. Hopefully Cheri will see this and give her input as well since she has use the Acidopholiz.

have never heard of Parazap being a probiotic...they don't market it as such, either.

Nutribac, yes (which seems to be hard to get these days).

There is a condition called sterile gut and I would be concerned that you may have this happen using two products that have effects on parasites.

Acidophliz digestive tract condition contains live active bacteria to replace the natural bacteria in a bearded dragons digestive tract that is killed off with the good bacteria when using Albon or other meds that are intended to kill off coccidia or harmful bacteria.

Acidophliz or any acidophilus should be used when medicating bearded dragons with antibiotics (albon is an antibiotic), I think that is one thing that most vets are agreeing on now and I see or get more and more emails from owners and pictures from clinics of their labels on meds now saying this.

Now as far as parazap goes, we have used it successfully to lower a coccidia load or rid it from dragons who were not showing other signs of compromised health from coccida. I would not hesitate to use Albon or other antibiotics if the animals was showing other signs of health problems from coccidia, I just believe in giving they own immune system a chance to deal with the problem with a mad cleaning routine and parazap first if they seem fine otherwise.

that parazap was in fact a probiotic.. but moreso a natural wormer, hrmm

I meantto say it's like a probiotic in that in helps clean and keep the digestive tract in balance so therefore normal, beneficial gut flora thrive.....I do appologize for any confusion.
