Very Hopefull Square Tail Female

norajohn Nov 08, 2011 07:31 PM

This is a Sq.Tail female that was one of the original imports in 2002, so she is about 10 years old. I have always loved how well the Sq.Tails cross with Jungles, but never got around to doing the cross myself until a few months ago. She is looking really good, so I am holding my breath that she has a nice clutch of babies. She has the full connecting pattern, sq.tail, and is just a lovely boa. I took this picture tonight with a flash and then the other photo is the bad boy that did the deed.
figures crossed! Due late December.

Thanks for looking,

John Manser

Wow John I'm jealous beautiful. That VPI Jungle is still off the Chart outstanding.

Jeff and I were just talking about these VPI Jungles of yours today.

They were 2009 VPI Jungle Boas if I remember correctly.

Good luck John 1

Thanks Lar. Yes, they are 2009 and seem to be excellent breeders. I'm real hopefull on the sq tail jungles het vpi T plus as I really think it wil take them to a new level.

Glad you like!

Right?

Hi Richard,

I have always considered the sq.tails a dominant type expression, or maybe the term is co-dom. I really don't think of them as het at all, but I know others have used that term. What I have seen passed on as dominant from breeding some of the boas from the original import is; that red color, a super clean look, a blue/grey eye color, the white line at tail, a green iridescence at tail, dorsal pattern (not the connecting aspect, but the holes in saddles and the color of saddles) and a very gentle nature.
What I have not seen as dominant is the blocky pattern of tail (the sq.tail), and the full connecting pattern. You can produce a few that lean toward those traits, but they never seem as strong as with the original breeder boa.

These are just my observations from breeding them and would love to hear from those that have breed second generation sq.tails to report what those offspring my have carried forward.

Thanks,
John

I think you have some great points there, i have never bred a squaretail boa just yet but the recessive trait that is named is questionable for sure.

Not sure if squaretails are co-dom, poly or recessive but i do like them and i will be doing a few squaretail breedings in the near future.

I also thing squaretails are more of a line bred trait... Squaretails bred to squaretails have the most squaretail 'Look' to them.

Thx for that wonderful info John. This is the data I like to see posted.

Thankyou really thankyou so much John for clarifying your position on your SQT Boas.

I thought this was the case but I never wanted to contact you and bug you
for your ideas and come across like I was hounding you.

This is extremely helpful for the SQT project as a whole "IMO".

I would Luv to get some colorful SQT het VPI Boas, that would be SaWeeet !!

Yes, color and that neat lacy pattern the jungle x sq.tails have. Holding my breath on this one.

Thanks Lucas.

What a great combo to see come to life! You have a very artistic taste in boa creations. I'm sure every baby boa from that pairing will be jaw dropping and eye popping. GOOD LUCK

Hi Siegi,

Man, it seems so long ago when we got those sq.tails in. She is the only one I have left. The others are out there somewhere I guess. Very, very neat boas and so underutilized. I guess in the last ten years there were so many competing projects, the sq.tails were just left out.

I have seen at least one sq.tail albino and it was hot, so good luck with that and send pictures!

Take care,

John
