2 crested gecko questions: baby food and supplements

breen7 May 27, 2003 02:06 AM

I have no idea what to do about supplementing a geckos diet. How much, what kind, how often? I've heard so many different and conflicting opinions of supplementation, I'm very confused.

Also, how long can baby food stay out in room temperature before it become unsafe for gecko consumption?

Try doing a search for more info on this forum. I can also forward you an e-mail when I get home that I sent to someone asking the same question. Just drop me a line (my e-mail is above) so I have your address.

As far as the fruit goes, as long as it’s not moldy you are good (if it molds could be a sign you are misting too much). I usually leave it in till it dries out. They actually seem to like it better on the second day around, which makes sense.

On frequency of feeding cresteds..I seem to recall it being said here that you feed them crickets two to three times a week and fruit twice a week...that's only 5 days...what do you feed the crestie on the other two days of the week or do you just don't feed them anything?

Adults are fed every other day with crix and fruit usually once a week (if that). Animals under a year are fed crix every day with fruit still at once a week. If for any reason crix shipments are late they get fruit until they come in. The animals that are really packing on the weight are fed every 3 days or so with fruit every few weeks. That’s pretty much it but it does vary a lot on the animal.

Thanks Mike Will remember this when I get my own Crestie (hopefully this will be in July, unless Toronto gets sealed up again due to SARs)

Hi

I sprinkle a little calcium carbonate in my Crested fruit pulp/baby food every other feed. I also put a sprinkling of Spirulina powder in their fruit pulp/baby food once a week It doesn't smell very nice but the Cresteds love it. My Cresteds seem to eat their food before it has a chance of drying up! This goes for my adults and hatchlings.
