Bluerosy Nov 12, 2011 12:25 AM

okay with the post below some people got upset that it was not a kingsnake that was posted. But because we are a long term community I am curious what other people do when it comes to collecting things. Since keeping reptiles is a form of collecting. i wonder how many of us actually collect other things?

So if any of you have any non-herp related hobbies were you collect things (I am not talking about sports hobbies or other outdoor hobbies, but hobbies where you actually collect things). It could be collecting rocks, cars, comic books, zippo lighters, music CD's, etc.

Show us some pics of what things you collect to make it interesting.

I am a big fan of the Chevron toy cars and have all of them except the Disney ones which I thought were lame, and some of the Sport vans which were all the same. The vehicle pictured is my own creation when everyone wanted a fire truck. I posted this on the toy car blog and got so many hits it finally inspired the Chevron folks to make a fire truck. Alas, Chevron seems to have quit with this thing and is not making any more of the toy cars.

That's what i am talking about. Those types of hobbies really interest me. You seem to have a good niche in those. Are they expensive?

They are not that expensive, except for the first Breast cancer car that came out, which is very scarce. I have it. Also the Disney cars (which I hate and are super lame; not even have eyeballs, for cryin out loud!) are expensive, just due to scarcity.

I also collect guns. Here's a few of my favorites.

ahhh long guns. i mostly only collect CCW guns exept for full size 1911's. and K and L frame S&W's.

I like anything without the Clinton Locks. Locks put on a gun are offensive to me like some are offended by hybrid snakes.

Nice S&W 624 L frame:

Oh and I like knives to:
Strider SMF with Kimber series 1 anniverary issue.

Custom S&W M13 w/ 3" barrel and Spyderco Military.

Salt H1 Spyderco with Krein regrind are my basic users.

I sold most all of my nice of my guns this year because I needed cash. That is the great thing about guns. They are like money in the bank. You can always get cash from guns when needed.

Yeah, I have tons and tons of reptile related stuff as well.I have been collecting reptile business cards for well over 20 years and I think I have about 2100 different ones now.I have all the old price lists as well way before the internet came along and changed everything.
I have all kinds of snake posters framed and hanging on my walls as well as a huge collection of snake books.I think I have about 250 books now from a to z.

Also, over the years I have picked up weird hand painted glass plates, shot glasses or anything with snakes on them.

p.s. anytime any of you guys go to a snake show and feel like helping out my addiction for cards feel free to pick up a card of each and every table and send them to me.That would be so cool.

And I have a small collection of German Soligen steel pocket knives like Puma, Boker, Kissing Crane, Eye Brand and Bulldog along with some Case, Schatt & Morgan American made knives. I like the old school styles of pocket knives over the newer Tactical knives......with the congress style or trapper being my favorites......

I like the new Dodge Challenger.......soooooooooo retro looking.....

Btw....I think the gas prices have risen rather proportionately with average salaries............

1966
Gallon of Gas = $0.32
Average salary = $4900.00

2011
Gallon of Gas = $3.50
Average salary = $42000.00

Salaries based on this chart.
http://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/AWI.htmlhttp://www.ssa.gov/oact/cola/AWI.html

If compared to today's dollar value the highest we've paid for gas is back in 1918 for a whopping $3.63 per gallon comparatively speaking.......lol

Awesome Randy!......440 Magnum??

Many years ago, I had a nice Black on Black w/bucket seats, center console '73 Pontiac Grand Am sport coupe with a 455, had the bare block boiled and TOTALLY re-built the entire engine myself with lots of performance aftermarket parts with some help from my sport car mechanic dad. It was bored-out 2x, and I added an Edelbrock Performer aluminum high-rise manifold, Holley 750 double-pumper, Crane "fireball" cam, Crane roller rockers, double timing chain gear set, 3000 rpm stall converter, Turbo 400 tranny with B&M shift kit(stage 2), Re-done heads, high-output Accel electronic ignition, coil & wires, Thrush turbo dual exhaust, and Trans Am Honeycomb wheels with 60's all around.

Man,...that thing BOLTED pretty good for a heavier car..LOL!

Af ew of the bad-ass Yamaha cafe RD 350's I had were pretty fun to bang the gears on too!

The one I had in the picture in my post above was a Dodge Challenger as opposed to the Plymouth Cuda. They were very similar. The Cuda's were 3 or 4 inches shorter with a couple differences in the body design. The Cuda's are my favorite all time old muscle car. The 1971 Hemi Cuda's with the gills in the grill and the shaker hood were just plain old bad a$$. Here is a shot of one. I'm not super crazy about the rims on this one but they are still pretty cool. I have to say that I liked all the old mopars. The Coronet, the Super Bee, the Charger, the Challanger, the Cuda, the Road Runner and the Dart.

NICE Michael. I know the red bellied's in the first shot. Is that a black in the second. A baby red bellied piranha was the very first fish I ever got, back in 1983. When I was younger I had aquariums all over the house. This is the last fish I had. It's a flower horn. He is at the end of a 75 gallon tank which is 18 inches from front to back to give you an idea of how big he was. My mouse colony is another hobby. Not only do I bred for big litters with mamas producing 15 to 22 pinks per litter, I breed for color and coat texture. I have long haired, silky long haired wooly, leucistic, brindle, TAN (the mouse in the top picture) and all sorts of other colors popping up all the time.
